We hope that you all had a wonderful, reflective, peaceful Christmas celebration. When we heard about the snow chaos on the news and from you all, we experienced a mixture of nostalgia (we want to go sledding as well) and thankfulness (we are glad that we don't have to freeze).
It was our first Christmas somewhere totally different, and it was a bit strange. But we made the best out of it, and that wasn't that bad at all. We got to know a few american traditions. I still can't believe the christmas lighting here. AMAZING!
On Christmas morning, we went to the park to celebrate with the homeless. A man from church donated 500 dollars, for which we bought underwear, socks, hats and flashlights at Walmart. In addition to that, each person received a warm sleeping bag. Three families, friends of ours, gave up their Christmas morning (the morning of the 25th is the christmas highlight here, when the gifts are opened) and helped us with the distribution.
On Monday we were in Houston, and exchanged a few gifts with our friend Mr. Lee. After that, he joined us for a visit in the children's museum. It was a nice excursion. At one point, Mr. Lee introduced us as "his family". That touched us, and astonished the other people.
Other than that, we had a lot of wonderful family time, and time with new and old (Lisa) friends. We miss you, and wish you a heartfelt "Happy new Year"!

our new home

deutsch unten

Last week we moved into our new home. It is a red texan barn that was redone into an appartement on the property of one of the church members.
We are so happy to be here and feel very comfortable. It is sooooo our style! Nice, small, cosy, with a lot of space to run and be outside. The only sound we can hear is the wind blowing in the trees. Soooo quiet and nice.
The church family did so much to fix the barren up for us so that we have it nice. They are great folks and we enjoy being their neighbors. They even painted it for us. There we have the texan generosity again. We are thankful that we can live here for free.
We are really thankful for that new place and will now enjoy some nice, quiet days off here during the christmas days.

Unser neues Zuhause

christmas season

english below

Within the last days we´ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of our Texan friends. We realised pretty much at the beginning how generous they are, providing so much for us as we arrived here. But we are really AMAZED about what is happening here in that christams season, even though a lot of families are struggling with the recession. Last week i send out an email to church people i got to know up to now. I told them about some specific individual needs we became aware of. For example there is our friend Mr. Lee who wants to take us to a proper afro- american church, but he wants to dress properly for that and needs a suit. Or a lady we met as we passed out thanksgiving meals. She is struggling to get enough food on the table for the kids she has to provide for. Than we needed different things for the upcoming christmas events for the needy we will be involved in.
Since we communicated those wants and needs we are bombarded with boxes, bags and envelops full of things that are so useful. Now we will spend the week driving around, distributing all those items to the people who need it. This is a great job!!!
In addition to that someone donated 500 Dollars for the homeless. With that money we are going to organise a nice christmas party for the 30 homeless we know in Conroe. We are very excited about all that. God is good!

On being a Mary

Here in Texas we have a smaller place to live, not so much to take care of anymore.... we have less responsibilities..... there is less pressure on us..... we have less friends we can spend time with (which we are sad about).....
all these changes make it easier for me to be like Mary, and i enjoy it so much!
At the same time i am thinking about how I can keep the Mary- attitude when i am back in Germany.
So what was special about Mary? She was sitting down and spending time with Jesus, while Martha freaked out to make all the arrangements she thought needed to be done to make it nice and comfortable and special for the people around her.
I guess this is a mistake a lot of us are doing, especially in this Christmas season, but basically all throughout the year. We spend huge amounts of money, time and energy in decorating our house and our garden. We buy gifts, bake cookies, cook meals, and before we know it we are totally stressed out and tired when we are actually supposed to be full of Joy and Peace and Thankfulness. On top of that we get angry because the people around us do not acknowledge all the hard work we are doing to make this season beautiful for them.
Let us not fall into that trap. Let us keep the important things in mind.
If you spend your day cleaning the house it will be dirty again next week. But playing and cuddling with your children will make them remember the beauty of christmas for always.
Get all the christmas presents you need in one afternoon may be very effective, but walking through town with your loved one or your friends will give you lasting memories.
Getting up early to have everything prepared before the day starts might be a great idea. But getting your soul prepared to really cherish life and love God and people might be even better.
In the culture we are living in it is really difficult to be a Mary. We have so much to do and in addition to that we have so much to distract us with. Our two hours of free time each day are easily absorbed with Facebook and TV. But let us all fight for the Mary within us. Let us keep her alive.
SAVE THE MARY!

thoughts... by chriss

God’s love, his justice and righteousness

This last week while having my times with the Lord and His word I found something…

One of those things you thought you knew, but when you really see them, then you can actually grasp or at least you realize that what you thought all the time maybe was not all on target or actually only a tiny fraction of this huge truth of God.

We all know that God loves us, that He loves the whole world…

And we enjoy this truth and speak about it often in our churches. And so we should…

But how is it when it comes to speaking about His justice and righteousness? I really struggle with teaching those passages. But I will, as the Word of God is all I have to bring to the table…

So this last week as I was reading about Solomon I stumbled over something that I had never seen before:

As I was meditating over the “wise ruling” that made Solomon so famous I suddenly realized that this wisdom coming directly from God, probably would have a very difficult time to survive or find application in our minds and churches today…

If you look at 1.Kings 3:16 we see that these two women were prostitutes. According to Deuteronomy 23:17 (and many other scriptures) God was clear about not having harlots in Israel! So why would Solomon in all his wisdom even give these women an ear, if he was a man who was exercising “Gods righteousness”? “You two, just get your act together and then we can see if God’s Wisdom will have time for your problem…” that could have been his response to their request and probably would be most of the time today, right?

But there is even more about these two women that makes it hard for me to understand why God would choose this problem of these two women to have Solomon become so famous for his God given wisdom:

These two harlots were cold as ice – both their hearts were hardened from long years of abuse and abnormal humiliation in their profession. We can obviously see this clearly with the mother of the dead child, as she is ready without a wink to see the child cut in half…

But also the mother of the baby alive is hard as stone. Maybe not in the area of her heart as a mother, where this God given passion and love of a mother is willing to even let her own child go as long as it may have life…

If you look at 1.Kings 3:21 it says: “But when I had examined him in the morning, indeed, he was not my son whom I had borne.” (NKJV)

This term “examined him” we find also in Job and there the translation gives us a better understanding of what she did: Job 32:12 “I paid close attention…”

I don’t know about you, but the mothers I know including my wife would not have the emotional strength nor the mind to undergo a detailed examination of their child who has just died in their arms.

Why did she do it?

Well there is only one explanation for such an action:

She herself would have done the same wickedness to swap babies, that’s why she expected the other prostitute to do such a thing.

The death of her child did emotionally not touch her so far to overwrite the wicked assumption that the other woman switched the babies.

So with all this in mind, again the question: Why would God speak His divine godly justice into these women’s situation, women that were wicked, hard at heart and were actively involved in the godless activity of prostitution?

Well, the answer I found in chapter 10 of first Kings.

It was the Queen of Saba who visited Solomon to see the wisdom and all the riches for her self, when she profoundly pointed out: “Because of the LORD’s eternal love for Israel, He has made you King, to maintain justice and righteousness.” 1st Kings 10:9 NIV

She understood that it was love that motivated God to put Solomon as King, so that He might exercise God’s righteousness and justice!

Jeremiah 9:24 states the same concept:

“But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight," says the LORD.”

God’s justice and righteousness is always motivated by God’s nature of love and kindness!

How does that go togther?

How can you exercise justice and righteousness and love and kindness at the same time?

God can and He does it over and over again…

The ultimate expression of this we find at the cross, as he exercised extreme justice and righteousness by bringing the penalty of sin upon His divine son Jesus Christ, to show us His love and kindness, so that now we can receive His provision for the punishment of our sin in Jesus, who paid for us!

So now the uncomfortable question:

Do we understand God an know Him in His lovingkindness, justice and righteousness? Or is it that we only embrace one side of this truth of God, because we either fear or don’t understand the other?

Ephesians 5:1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. We are called to live like this, to have both areas alive and active in our life, family and churches, if we call ourselves children of God!

God, may we understand and know you more so we might glory in the one true God…

lustige Kindergeschichten

Was dann?"

Jenna Mae, unsre kleine wortkarge Maus, singt seit Neuestem ausgiebig.

Zitat Mae Mae:
Mae Mae time out.

Kimmys Standard Gebets anfang:
Lieber Gott, danke Dass du HEUTE, an DIESEM TAG, HIER bei UNS mit uns HIER bist. ....

Mae Maes Standard letzter Satz am Abend:
Morgen Burger King!

Freundschaften

book recommendation

Yesterday I read one book in three hours. It is called "Conversations with the voiceless" by John Wessells.
Chriss gave me some time for myself, so i went to the library, got some books and settled in a nearby park to read. As it got too cold i went into starbucks and continued reading. I sat there crying and laughing, totally lost in the book. As i was done with it, and went out, all the workers waved at me smiling with a weird expression on their faces. I guess they had a lot of fun watching me crying, sobbing, giggling.....
It is the story of a man who was called by God to go to brain damaged coma patients, to sing to them and share Gods love with them. AMAZING BOOK, i loved it!

Deutsch:

Buchempfehlung

Allein in unsrem Ort leben geschätzte 2000 Obdachlose.

Building relationships

As it is getting busier and busier here, there is less and less time to write about all the moving and teaching encounters and experiences we're having. In the last few weeks three different mothers went to the leaders of street church, because they are in a situation in which they cannot care for their kids anymore. These kids have now all been placed in rescue families, until it is clear what will happen next. We helped out in different areas to care for the kids. Now we're praying about the possibility of creating the basic surroundings to take in kids for a defined period of time in our own family.....
At street church I have especially befriended an older African-American. His name is Lee. He's a really nice guy with a special sense of humor. During our first encounters he was very reserved and sometimes even repellent. Now, after having talked regularly over two months, we are both always very happy to see each other and talk about the experiences of the week. Lee especially likes to reminisce about his past. He's a good cook, and had been able to work in that line of business successfully for some time. Momentarily he's having some difficulties healthwise. He's been in the hospital several times these last couple of weeks. The nights are getting colder now, and we've had a couple of powerful storms here, and Lee is longing to have his own four walls around him, to have a shelter from the streets.
Life on the streets of Houston seems to be very grim. There is a serial killer going around at the moment, that has already killed several of the homeless. The street gangs also create a lot of violence and misery. Many homeless move away from the city, and roam the surrounding forests. There are about 2000 homeless living in our area alone.
So Saturdays we are now going to a needy meal for the homeless near us. We have already been able to establish several relationships there. We regularly meet up with several teenage girls that come from families with a very difficult background. Our goal for the near future is to have a group from church take on one Saturday a month, on which to cook for, host and entertain the homeless.
We can now say that we have fully arrived here, that our plan for the week is well-structured, and that we are busy working on implementing the things that are on our heart.
Thank you again for every small message of yours. It is good to know that you are standing behind us, and are with us in thought.
To our chapel friends: we are so excited to hear about how the church is growing and flourishing. You are doing great! We should have left you working on your own in peace much sooner ;-)

29a

Some say I am now 30 years old, others call it 29a!
I had a wonderful birthday!
My new texan friend Candice took our kids, and Chriss and I were able to spend the day as a couple. After a delicious lunch and a very dear letter from my very dear husband, we drove to Houston and went to the art museum. We spent 3 hours admiring pictures, discussing them, and being amused by some of them. We now know that we are both friends of the impressionism, although Chriss has a tendency to the realistic impressionism, and I lean more towards the late impressionism.
After our visit to the museum we stopped by at street church, as we were nearby anyway. It's been storming and raining quite strongly for a few days now, and it was frightening to see how much the weather situation affects the homeless. For them storms and tempests are more than just a discomfort during which you better stay in your warm and comfortable home.... Luckily it was dry during the service, and I was even presented with a birthday song.
Through your messages, emails, cards and packages I felt very close to you. Thank you so much for all those thoughts that you spent on me. I was overjoyed not to be forgotten, even though I'm not visibly present for many of you.
You are all very dear....

Teamwork

We are privileged to be able to get to know several very impressive families here. Families that are ready to share their blessings with others. Families that are ready to bring sacrifices in order to help injured and despairing people. I have already told several times of the services we hold for the homeless in Houston on Wednesday nights. It has already happened several times, that desperate mothers have handed over their babies and kids to the helpers, because they have no more means of caring for them. One mother of two children (2 and 4 years old) is currently in a situation in which she cannot care for the kids. She needs about a month to find a new apartment for herself and the children. The missions pastor and his wife have taken in the kids for this time, and the church has built up a support group, so that individuals from church are preparing meals or coming over to play. It is wonderful to see how so many are working together to bring help in a quick and uncomplicated way. Yesterday we went on a little outing with the two kids and our own. We had a wonderful time.

office work

Here we are, sitting in a church office, while our kids are having fun in Kindergarten, and we are working on conceptions, structures, programs and time schedules, and are creating layouts for flyers and invitations.
After we have now gotten to know several great projects and have identified the needs they have, there is precision work to be done. To build up and structure the ministries in such a way that people from church get interested, and want to help. To create structures in which volunteers can find their place and find joy in serving.
We are realizing how important it is that everything is well thought-out and structured before you can excite people for something long-term. And so we are sitting here and writing, and drafting, and designing..... and are looking forward to the time in which we can implement what we have thought out, hopefully with the help of several volunteers....

Midnight thoughts

deutsch folgt in ein paar Tagen...

It happened twice already this week, that i woke up in the middle of the night, havin all kinds of intense thoughts and the urge to put them in order. For me those nights have been very special and i thought i share some "midnight thoughts" with you.....

On wrestling....

Somehow faith never came easy to me. With every trial I face I need to go through the whole process once again. Yesterday we spend time with some girls from an orphanage. Some of them experienced horrible things in the past. One of them, Haley, was having such a hard time hearing us even mention God. When we talked about him loving her and caring for her, she only shook her head in anger. She was not able to believe that after all that she´ s been through.

Tonight my daughter woke up from a nightmare, yelling and screaming. Chriss and me ran to her, hold her in our arms, assured her that everything is going to be fine. After her heartbeat had gotten back to normal we lay in her bad, and she was clinging to me. It was than that I was overwhelmed with that truth that there may come times when I can not help my daughter in that time of fear and suffering. There may come times when I can do nothing to ease her pain. My tears rolled down my cheaks when I told her, that me and Daddy will ALWAYS love her, no matter what will happen. And that her father in heaven will ALWAYS love her even though he will not protect her from all harm. She was listening closely and we prayed together and I realised once again that all faith is the decision to throw yourself into Gods arms within the unknown. I wish I could have told my daughter, that she doesn´t have to be afraid, that God will always protect her and we will be always be there for her. And most of the time, this is actually what I am telling her. But the blank truth is: I do not know. I do not know what the future will bring. And I still do believe…… but I do it wrestling……

I am thinking a lot about the fact that I have wrestled and do wrestle a lot. And for me, in a way, that wrestling is important. I could not grow without wrestling. Maybe I could not even survive without wrestiling.

I guess for some people faith comes more naturally. In a difficult situation they are able to recall what they know about God and they can reply this to the situation without a great turmoil of thoughts and emotions. For me it is not that way. When I see Haley, I do understand her bitterness, her ressentment, her anger. I ask myself, why she needed to go through all this, and I do not find an answer. I wrestle and struggle and at the end eventually come to a point where I am able to be at peace with the unknown, throwing myself into the arms of a God, who I do not understand.

Recently, while I am reading through Matthew and while I am in this new culture and watched some things that are different for me, I asked myself, how I will be able to watch my kids wrestling with those tough life questions. As a mom you naturally want to protect your kids from all those difficulties. But as I said before, I would have not grown, maybe not even survived (spiritually) if I would not have had the freedom to wrestle. (At this point I want to mention that I am very, VERY thankful for my sweet loving husband, who is very much different from me in this area and who went and still goes through a lot to grant me that freedom ).

Sometimes I hear Christian parents say, that the worst case scenario for them would be that their kids will turn from God and walk without him. I do share that feat. But at the same I am fighting against this fear in my life. Because I believe that this exact fear can have an influence on my kids life, that is causing them to forbid themselves to wrestle. If I contiously or even subtly let my kid know that they can cause me pain by not believing in God anymore, they will not allow themselves to wrestle with those tough life questions. And if they are like me, and if that wrestling Is important for them to grow and survive, it can cause them much harm to not wrestle.

One passage in the bible that I read previously is the parable of two sons (Matthew). The father is giving both of them an order. One says he will follow the order but doesn´t do it in the end. The other one is refusing to follow the order but at the end he changes his mind and does what his father has told him to do. This is how I want to raise my kids. I want to give them the freedom to go in the direction they want to go, hoping that in the end they will learn out of their own experiences what is best and whom to trust. I do not want them to consciously or subtly do what I believe is best for them, just to spare myself the pain and suffering of having a child that is doing things I do not want her to do.

The bible shows us a lot of examples of how God is giving us a free will. He is giving us FREEDOM. He created us as people who can choose both, good and evil. He could have restricted and limited our freedom in so many ways and it would have spared him from a lot of dissapointment and anger. But he chose to give us the freedom. So that we can refuse him out of a free will or love him out of a free will. And this kind of chosen love is the only kind of love he wants, the only love that is precious to him.

So I guess we need to stop trying to force people to love him, love us, love anything….. they need to choose to do it!

Berrows street

Gebet erwuenscht!

Today I (Melli) went along to visit a home for women that are HIV positive, for the second time. Women from the church go there every Tuesday to have a home fellowship there. Last week one of the women from church showed a picture presentation of her experiences in the slums of Kenya. Afterwards we had some good discussions, and the resident women had many great ideas about how they can get involved to help others. We then prepared a few meals and distributed them among the homeless in the neighborhood. I think it was a great experience for these women to take on the role of a helper and to bless others.
Today we celebrated the Birthday of one of the residents (Joyce). We brought a huge cake along with us, sang together and laughed, and had a really good time. Several deep relationships have already developed among the residents and helpers. It is beautiful to see how people that would normally not meet up much in everyday life become friends.
Chriss and the kids have caught the flu. The kids are already doing better, but Chriss is still lying at home afflicted... Prayer requested!

i had a dream

I dreamed of a blue couch. Every Sunday evening numerous people came to sit on it. They all had a good, but also a little bit tiring, day, in which they had served God and people. Now they got together to spend a relaxing evening with each other. They didn't have anything they needed to take care of, except finding something edible. Everybody knew where to get something to drink, and where the refrigerator was to be found. Somebody had mercy and tucked the kids into bed that were running around somewhere. Everybody put on comfortable sweatshirts and warm socks, lolled on the couch under the cuddly blanket, talked about what had happened during the day and the last week, and laughed a lot. Everybody knew each other well. One knew how the other was doing, and what he was going through at the moment. One laughed about the most stupid things, because it was already "past 8", and after being tired you easily get silly. Sometimes somebody brought up enough energy to talk the others into playing a board game. But ultimately it didn't matter what they did. They just spent time together, nobody had any expectations or requirements, nobody felt the responsibility to host and entertain the others. They were all just TOGETHER!
We are becoming aware of what special, wonderful friendships we have been able to build up in Heidelberg, and we are very very thankful for that.
We are looking forward to the friendships we'll be able to build up here. Already there are several people, that we have grown to love and cherish. In the last couple of days we've experienced a lot of good and close companionship. We are very thankful for that...

Update on fosterkids

new life ministry

Today we visited Miss Dotty. Miss Dotty and her husband opened a home 8 years ago, to which women can go after they get out of prison. We met a few amazing, wonderful characters there.
There are 5 women living with Dotty at present. They have a regular structured day, and are learning the basics of a life of independance, and a lot about who they are as a person, and who they are in God.
Cody is barely 17, and has been with Miss Dotty for a year. She started drinking at the age of 11, and taking drugs at 13. Now she's been clean for a year. A beautiful young girl with a fascinating vibrancy and the talent to tell her own story with humor and a lot of wisdom.
April is in her mid-fifties, and told about having stored up so much anger and bitterness in her life, so that she just wanted to hurt herself and others badly. Amidst tears she told us that, through the work of Miss Dotty, she finally learned to accept and love herself and others and God, and that she received the gift of a new life in her advanced age.
We spent two incredibly moving hours with these women, made ourselves comfortable in their living room chairs, listened to their stories and experiences, laughed, cried and prayed with them.
Now we hope to get a small group of people from church excited to visit these ladies in their comfortable living room once a month for a game night.

We have already written several times about the pastor and wife that we are working together with a lot here. The two of them have three foster children. This Thursday the court will decide if Candice and Brian are able to adopt the three of them. A very intense, nerve-racking situation. We are thankful to be able to experience this so closely, and are praying that God will bring about the solution that is best for the kids.
Over the weekend we helped with a conference for teenagers.
On Sunday, Chriss will start with a 4-week long class on the topic of "effective bible study".
Melli is currently going through the basic training to become a riding instructor/therapist. As soon as this is completed, she'll be able to go to the ranch with a teen in a difficult life situation, to work with her there weekly.
Other than that we are meeting up with people, establishing relationships and building up structures, so that we can soon start with different projects in Montgomery.
We are momentarily working on the realization of
a weekly play-hour for foster children
sports projects and mentoring for youth living in a center
renovating activities in that same center
food distribution to the needy on Thanksgiving
supporting a local ministry to the homeless
The weather has gotten a bit cooler here - it's only about 30 C warm now.
We sometimes get a little homesick in the evenings. We still haven't found anybody to play settlers with us yet, and there are at least 3 players needed. So we invited two imaginary friends from Germany yesterday (Nona, you won!)
Greetings to you!!!! With love

All the Kings Horses

Yesterday we visited a couple, that has a beautiful ranch with 6 horses, not too far away from us. The two of them started an association a couple of years ago, and are now organizing holidays on horseback for kids and youth with a socially weak background and/or broken family situation. They want to expand this ministry, offering free riding lessons during the week to this target group. For this they need volunteers, that already have some experience with horses. These volunteers go through a basic training of how to plan out a riding lesson, and are then assigned a child/ teenager, with which they work on regular riding lessons. The goal is also to build up relationships through this that can help the kids in everyday life.
Those of you that know me (Melli) a little, know that this is a dream come true and prayer request answered. I signed up for this training more than willing, and will try to recruit some more people from church for this ministry.

WAHNSINNIG!
Gott segne euch

Mail from home

We received a really cool 10 month calendar from our chapel in Heidelberg today and were extremely pleased. EXTREMELY!
You guys are just way too cool and we already miss you deeply.
We miss our Sunday location, our Döhner-church-meals on sunday afternoons, our evening game-sessions (we haven't found anyone to play Settlers with us here yet), our experiences in nature (somehow most of nature has a fence around it here, and belongs to someone), the many places to go to for wonderful mother- kids- afternoons, and just in general.
But before I get melancholic now, I'd rather sit down on the balcony and enjoy the sunshine (SMILE).
Many warm greetings to fall in Heidelberg.
And also to the rest of Germany, or wherever you may be.
God bless you.

street church

english below:

Yesterday I went to street church for the second time.
The parking lot on which the whole thing takes place was overflowing with people. Gathering from my observations up to now, I would estimate that more than 80% of the people living on the streets here in Houston are of dark skin color.
One church had a worship band and preacher there, that led through the service. During the service it is normally pretty unsettled. Many stand outside and talk, there are police cars on the side checking individuals for drugs, etc.
But suddenly, when the band played their third song, the whole atmosphere changed completely. Many of the homeless stood up and started to sing along loudly, praising God in their black way, that is so famous worldwide. That was really impressive. Thereupon an elderly lady, Florence, came to me and asked: "Will you pray for me, sister?" And so I took her in my arms, and we prayed together and were both pretty moved.
During the meal I had another longer conversation with a very charming homeless guy. We had a good time, laughed a lot and made jokes. Lance has a cool sense of humor, and it's fun to talk to him.
As I watched the child care for a while, I did get a bit wistful. Many of the kids just lay in the arms of those in charge and snuggled there. They are such amazingly cute little boys and girls and they so much deserve a chance. They need to receive help, to get out of this hopelessness and loss of perspective. Even if many don't take this chance and do something with it, they still all deserve it!
We had a young mother with her baby with us, that was helped out of prostitution by another of the churches programs (Redeemed) a few weeks ago. It was so cool that she was there with us, to serve the homeless.
Street church is definitely a project that has already grown on me, and I'm thankful that Chriss has agreed, and is giving me these Wednesday evenings as a gift, so that I can help there regularly.
I would love to show you a few pictures, but I thought it rather improper to already pull out my camera this Wednesday. Maybe there'll be an opportunity next Wednesday.

In Texas:

Total begeisternd!!!

Yesterday we visited a lady named Donna, to find out how we can support her as a church. Donna has been taking in difficult teenagers as foster children for decades. She's had 130 foster children up to now!!! Amazing, isn't it? Meanwhile two men that used to be her foster children and a biological daughter live with her on her property. They have also built houses and are also taking in foster children. We were deeply impressed by this place. Now it is our task to make a plan and to build up a structure of how we can support these people in their various tasks. Very exciting!!!

erster Gottesdienst

first sunday service

Today was our first time to go to the church with which we'll be working for the next 10 months. We will just see in what area we can integrate ourselves and in what way we can be of support. The church isn't much different in size than our church in Heidelberg. However, it does have a lot more kids and youth. We were so pleased that Kimmy and Mae Mae felt comfortable in their groups. They stayed there without difficulty, and had fun.

The topic of the sermon was fittlingly about missions. Brian called out to the church to go out and become active. Following Jesus' call to bring love to the lonely, hope to the disappointed, and bread to the hungry. There are dozens of projects in which the church is involved. Many of them are very exciting for us. Now we'll have to pray and see on which projects we should take a focus, in which we should take part.

Tomorrow we are able to move into our own house. We almost feel a little bit sad, as we thoroughly enjoyed living in community here. We can only keep being amazed at how generous and free-giving these people here are with everything. We are being presented with gifts and being spoiled by everyone. There are so many ressources for the innumerable projects of the church. And amidst all this it seems as if the people that are blessing receive back abundantly... isn't there a verse about that somewhere?!

And something else briefly: there was supposed to be a church-kindergarten starting this month. However, this didn't work out, as there weren't enough kids signed up for it. Now we'll have to see whether the kids will go to the kindergarten Josh' and Debs' son is going to, or whether we'll find a place for them in the neighbourhood here. You can pray for that, that we would find a good solution for this.

All the best
